Brand New Shoes…

Shoes

You will be seeing a lot more of me here in my effort to spend less time on facebook, which tends to be a huge time suck for me.
With the upcoming elections I'm sure the political fury will kick up which is another good reason to back away and concentrate on the positive things in my life.
Soo…I treated myself to a brand new pair of walking shoes and have begun walking again now that the summer heat and humidity is behind us.  I have to be in tip top shape (which I am definitely not) to have the stamina to do any serious work out when it is hot and humid and it was exceptionally humid up here this summer..ick.

Inspired by my friend Julia I am starting a journey towards wellness.  I will be honest with you, Ken and I did not pay much attention to the things we were eating nor did we do a stitch of exercising this summer and I am feeling it, both in weight gain and lack of motivation.

I've decided that this is not how I want to live and have made a conscious decision to make some changes starting with trying to refocus my mindset…which brings me right back around to FaceBook.  It's waaay to easy to let an evening go by there sitting in my chair.  I learn so many things from some of the groups I belong to, so I will hop on to check those groups and see what my friends are doing now and then, but I will be there a lot less, so that I can spend that energy being more productive, putting things I have learned into action.

Back to the topic of wellness, I am joining along with Julia using the 2B Mindset program and integrating some of the products and recipes from Arbonne's 30 day program that I like as well.  The thing about 2B Mindset is that there are suggestions and guidelines for what to eat, but no strict program that is impossible to maintain long term. Ultimately it helps to put you back in charge of your own wellness by listening to how your body feels with what you are eating and so far I am finding it very helpful and realistic.

I have also decided to bite the bullet and have a consult with a foot doctor to see if I can get these darn feet of mine fixed now that there is a less invasive type of surgery to correct bunions available and down the road I will see what can be done about my bum hip because constant daily pain sucks the energy both mentally and physically out of your spirit….and no wants that right?
I'm looking forward to 2019 with a healthier start!

**As a side note, I apologize for not being able to easily respond to comments here, but I do read and appreciate each and every one.  Typepad has made some changes that makes it so much more cumbersome to reply to comments, so much so that if I can figure out a way to move my blog without losing my 11 years of history here I may do that, but I will let you know if I do. 🙂

  1. I’m curious about the changes made by Typepad. I also have my blog hosted there and, other than a blip last week when I didn’t get notification of comments on a post or two, I don’t notice anything different in the way I receive comments or in how I reply… WHAT IS HAPPENING? Meanwhile, I’ve been considering a move from Typepad for other reasons, but going on 15 years worth of posts is… daunting to say the least.
Good luck on your wellness journey!!

  2. Good for you, Kim! Those sound like great, positive moves! BRAVO. Last November, I decided to see if I could break my Facebook “addiction” . . . and while it was super hard for the first 2 days, I quickly found I didn’t miss it at all. I like Instagram – because it’s more “controlled” and not nearly as much of a time-suck for me (although don’t get me started on the rabbit hole that is Pinterest. . . ). Good luck to you.
I, too, am wishing I could move my blog from Typepad. (I’d like to have a different format for my blog; I haven’t had any issue with comments lately.) What’s stopping me? Why . . . Typepad doesn’t play nice with other platforms, so the transfer is not easy (and in some cases, impossible.) I’ll be eager to see what you do! XO

  3. Hi! I’m a typepad blogger too and am moving my blog the end of the month! Touch base with me and I’ll share how my move went.
I wish you mucho success with your new healthy living routine and I’ve no doubt you’ll wind up ignoring the FB rabbit hole.
    Carry on!
    Cheers~

  4. Typepad has even made it difficult to comment now, I have to sign in and I can’t comment at all on some blogs. I made the move to Word Press years ago and I’m so glad I did – not that I knew it was the right choice at the time but it has definitely turned out that way. Good for you for hopping back on that exercise wagon!

  5. I took Facebook off my phone and I am SO MUCH happier! I only look in the morning and only on my computer. I, like Kym, use Instagram as there isn’t much that’s political and the pictures just make me happy. I won’t be moving my blog, I’m not sure I’ll keep blogging, but I’ll be here reading no matter where you go. We should talk. I have had terrible foot problems this year (not bunions) and found a couple of answers that help. My feet are happier and I am walking more (a new puppy helps). 🙂
    LOVE YOU!

  6. Yay for your new journey! If you ever need something to keep up the momentum on days you can’t go outside, you might want to look into Leslie Sansone’s “Walk at Home” programs. She has 25 years worth of stuff. Tons of free videos on Youtube, or you can purchase DVDs or digital downloads from her website. Lots of the DVDs are available on Amazon, too (used and new). I have the “Mix & Match Walk Blasters” and love it because it’s a bunch of different 10-minute segments that you can put together however you want. But sometimes I just throw on one of her 5-minute ones from Youtube when I want a little pick-me-up.
