Word…….

Kindness

Last year I needed a word to make me smile.
It's no secret if you have been reading my blog or my facebook page that the last few winters have been hard ones for me.  I have  found that I really struggle with the long days of darkness.  The dark along with the continuous pain that I have learned to live with really had me searching for a word to help celebrate those long dark days, which is why I chose Sparkle and truth be told, it really did help.
I loved my Sparkle word!

Last year I jumped into the word thing and bought a "One Little Word" kit and lots of sparkly things to fill up my binder and did I do anything with it?  No, no I did not…LOL.  I did however fully embrace my word.  I guess I didn't need all of the extra's to help me focus on filling my life with Sparkle.  I thought of it often and it truly did make me smile.
I think it is a word that will forever stay with me, especially in the winter.

As the calendar turns, I thought about what I wanted for my word this year.  Last year my word was chosen to help me get through the dark times, but this year I wanted it to turn it around. Even though I think that I am basically a kind person,  practicing kindness is not always easy or something that is our first reflex.
This year I am going to really concentrate on practicing kindness.

How about you…do you have a word for 2016?

  1. I have chosen the word content as in contentment–being content with having enough, doing enough, being enough. Having had surgery in November and a long recovery (3 months no driving/working/etc), I have learned to embrace contentment and decided to continue with the practice into the new year. I find not watching TV to be a big help :).
Good luck with your word kindness–something we should all practice and one I will need to hone in on when I return to work in late Feb…I work in DC and believe me, kindness is missing in action in that town–especially in an election year.

  2. I think you are one of the kindest people I have ever known. I am going to love watching how you embrace this word for the coming year. My word is shine.

  3. Love your word! So perfect! I never do the “official” OLW thing either, although I always sign up and use the prompts as a way to think about my word all year long. I think there is a lot of power in having a word in your life during the year. I can’t wait to see what your word does for you this year. XO

  4. You will have no trouble living your word. My theory is we pick words we think we need in our lives, however, we are already our words. You are a very kind person already.

  5. Yes, I have a word or intention for the year. This is my third year selecting a word for an intention and it makes a difference in my life. Last year, my word was kindness! This year, my intention is for understanding. A big change looms on the horizon, not to mention things we don’t know about – so practicing understanding seems like a good intention. Cheers!

  6. I also chose a word last year – core – and kept it close to me but fizzled fast with doing any of the “extras”. That said it was a good experience. I love your choice for this year!
