The Colors of November…………

November sky

The mind that turns ever outward
Will have no end to craving.
Only the mind turned inward
Will find a still-point of peace.

So, while parts of this post are from a previous post in 2009, I'm not really taking the lazy way out for my 2nd day of posting. This post pretty much reiterates what was in my mind to post already.

Today I read my daughter Ashley's blog  and it is one that could have been written by myself.  Winter up here in Northern New England last year was long, dark and cold.  So in turn, I started to think about what I love about November and I went searching for this picture of Ashley in a cown that I knit in a beautiful November shade of brown.

As I was searching for this picture, I came across the post I had written right before our photo shoot in November and it completely sums up what I love about November and the colors that surround us this time of year. Heck, I think I even have enough of that French General fabric or close enough to it to make a few new bags.

With the vibrant colors of Autumn now past, we move into that in between period of November.  When I was younger this along with March were the 2 months that I loathed.  Usually cold and dreary months with not much to offer, but as I have aged, I have have actually come to enjoy November……….and it's soft subtle colors.

Come take a short walk with me and see the colors of my November…………

Flower1

Beige flower close
The beautiful silvery taupe remnants in the fields of Baby breath and other flowers that surround our yard……

Beige grass

The grass that was once tall and green, now a beautiful shade of champagne beige is settling in for a long winter's nap.

Leaves and grass
and the soft tender chestnut brown leaves that will keep that grass covered while it sleeps…

Shawl on flowers2

Even Aestlight was tempted to nestle in amongst the warm soft gentle shades of November on her first outing…..

Fabric and thread
Taking a cue from my surroundings it is no wonder that these lovely fabrics from the Rouenneries line of The French General are what appeal to me right now….

Bison yarn

…along with this soft taupe Bison/Cashmere yarn from Fibre~Isle.  See….there are lots of things to love about November if you look in the right places…..

I couldn't have written it any better today.  I hope you enjoy my colors of November. 🙂

The yarn is soooo soft and the color is right in your November colors, thank you.
The cowl, I am knitting is Circumnavigate by Heidi Kirrmaier, perfect for your yarn.

  3. Beautiful post from the past. It’s easy to see why you love the natural browns and taupes.
What I see from my window is gray, dreary, but thankfully, the snow is staying in the higher elevations.

  4. The thing that’s hard for me about November is that the cold weather and more muted colors are such a contrast to those warm and bright days (or occasional day)and blazing colors of October. That said, I’ll try!

  5. I love Fall. I haven’t been so crazy about the last few days though. We were hit hard by that Nor’Easter that blew through on Sunday. We lost power on Sunday, and we still are without power. The snow was beautiful, however, all ten inches!
