Dads……..

KengirlsDad

He never looks for praises
He's never one to boast
He just goes on quietly working
For those he loves the most
His dreams are seldom spoken
His wants are very few
And most of the time his worries
Will go unspoken too
He's there…. A firm foundation
Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold to
In times of stress and strife
A true friend we can turn to
When times are good or bad
One of our greatest blessings,
The man that we call Dad.

This weekend we celebrated Father's Day with my parents, some of the kids and a family friend.  I am so fortunate to share parenting with a man who this poem could have been written for….a firm foundation during good times and hard times.  A dad who read to the kids before bed-time.  A dad who looked forward to all of their various sporting or musical events.  A dad who never stops worrying about their welfare even still today…a very good dad indeed!

My own Dad was a similar dad as well.  He's always been there to help his children as they left the nest.  Always there to advise, support and cheer not only his children, but his grandchildren and his great grandchildren, and we all love him.

My Dad's birthday falls the week before Father's Day, so we have always celebrated his birthday at the same time.  This year when I called him on his birthday, I asked him what he got for his birthday from my Mom.  He sighed and said…"She says the new tires on my car are my present, but I wish I had a BB Rifle with a scope."  He sounded like a little boy disappointed at Christmas, so how could I not get him one.
He lit up like a little boy when he saw that wrapped box….He was a VERY happy Dad indeed!

Thank you to all of the Dad's who have loved us and are loved by us!!

  1. I’ve seen Ken in action and I agree that he is a terrific dad. Love that vintage photo of him with the girls! And good for you for surprising your dad with a gift that will make him feel like a kid again.
