I have some…..

Hampsters
new little friends……

I won't lie, I was NOT happy when Courtney came home carrying a cage containing little dwarf hamsters.  Even though I have had rabbits, I have not been a fan of smaller rodent pets. When I caught a glimpse of the two cute little faces peeking out of their sleep house though, oh my!  These little babies belong to one of Courtney's college roomates who was going home to Texas for the holiday, thus the extended vacation here in Conway.

After researching a little on what type of hamster they are, I believe that they are Roborovski dwarf hamsters.  They are so teeny tiny with such sweet little faces and no nasty rodent tail.  I actually like them. 🙂

The plan was for Courtney to keep them in her room, but given that they appear to be nocturnal and are very busy little girls at night running on their wheel, I offered to let them live in my office.  Most of their day is spent in their little sleep house, but they do get busy at night or when I fill up their little food dish.
I like to give them little pats during the day, but I don't dare to pick them up for fear that they would jump out of my hands and a dog would mistake them for a snack…..a little hamster cookie. 😉

Never a dull moment here at Casa Woolen Rabbit.

  1. LOL on the dog snack comment! They are kinda cute. Glad they have a warm place to stay and are providing you with some much needed distraction and amusement.

  2. Previous experience of these little cuties can confirm they can be very skittish and jumpy and would only recommend picking them up if you are experienced with them.
My Russian dwarf hamster is on vacation with a friend as I’m away for xmas. Enjoy them while you are looking after them.

  3. I guess I won’t tell you about one of my son’s very looonngg ‘pet’ that came our way when he was a teenager and still resides with us even though said son is in his 30s and has his own place. At least the hamsters are just visiting. Sigh.

  4. I used to have dwarf hamsters when I was a kid! Ours were either russian or siberian dwarf but they are the sweetest things. It’s good for them to be handled often, it keeps them tame.

  5. We hosted a ferret for Christmas vacation one year under similar conditions. It was surprisingly cute – but had to be walked outdoors wearing a harness. I drew the line at that under the terms, “She’s your roommate (the ferret’s owner) not mine!” This Christmas we are hosting a rabbit. My other daughter claims that he might be our only ‘grandchild’ – he’s cute, but that would be sad.

  6. Hi! I found your blog while I was searching for roborovski hamsters to look at.
They’re so cute XD I have roborovski dwarf hamsters myself but mine are white-face ones so their entire face is white instead of having a brown area above the nose and white eyebrows like the ones in your photos.
