My Saturday….

FreelsquaresWeekends have now become much needed down time for me.  Prior to having back surgery I was regularly working 12-15 hours a day….which most likely had a lot to do with why I was having the back problems that I did.  After surgery, I made a promise to myself to keep a realistic lifestyle which was going to include taking the weekends off.  It's not easy for me, but I have to admit that it really feels good to have some time to myself.

As you may have noticed I have become reacquainted with my sewing machines again and have found the quiet time in my studio with some soothing music, an autumn scented candle burning while sewing to be good for my spirit.

The quilt that I showed you last week had to wait for a little more fabric, so I picked up a quilt kit that I picked up last year and attacked it.  The fabric collection is from one of my favorite lines, The French General… it was fun to pick up this easy peasy project to work on while waiting on the other fabric.  I have 2 more strips to sew together on this quilt and the top will be ready for quilting.

Longarm
…..which I plan to do myself.  I have become absolutely fascinated with long arm machine quilting.  I have a dear friend who is always trying to retrain her muscles and nerves to keep them working and challenged and this has become a way for me to do just that..with something I love.  Ey yi yi……it is a challenge to translate what is in my mind to travel through my hands onto the fabric, but I am taking baby steps.  15 minutes 3 or 4 times a day….just enough to reinforce the process but not so long that I get frustrated.  I'm having fun!!

Fallberryscarf
….and just in case you think I have fallen off the knitting wagon, no fear.  I will be finishing up my Fallberry Scarf while cheering on our beloved Patriots tomorrow in the Superbowl.  "GO Pats!!"

  1. I love the fabrics in your new quilt top – they are beautiful. Is it rail fence blocks joined by long strips of that bird toile-like fabric? I hope you will post photos when it’s done. As for the machine quilting, you can DO this! My best advice: relax your shoulders and just breathe.

  3. The quilt fabrics are elegant and the gold stripe with birds sets them off beautifully. It may be difficult to take time for yourself, but you deserve it. You should take care of yourself first and business second. xoxo

  4. I tried to help with the Pats, even tho they walloped my Broncos twice! Oh well, next year…
Good for you with the not working all weekend resolve. You deserve it!
P.S. Do you say “Pats” or “Pates”?

  5. Your great sense of color carries through in your quilting! When did you have back surgery, Kim?! I’m a veteran of two such surgeries – no fun, but definitely worthwhile as far as the improvement in quality of life.
