Summer Knitting…..

Whitfield beginnings
Can you believe that is already July??  Yikes!!

Because we kind of skipped right over Spring this year I am finding it hard to move into Summer mode even though it's been hot, hot hot!  This is the first year that we have not put our pool up in a number of years because it felt too cold for so long…and my garden is actually flourishing in spite of me. (busy, busy, busy)

Aidansjacket1 4 We have had a bit of a rocky start to this Summer season, which is leaving me to understand why in some species of animals, the Mom's have been known to eat their children….but I will leave it at that.

Given that I am a bit sequestered right now a lot of knitting and other things have been happening.

A while back, Anne posted a picture of her nephew sporting this adorable little jacket.  The little jacket was a smaller copy of a sweater that she made for her husband.  When I saw that little sweater, I just knew I needed to make one for my grandson…..so….I prodded……and suggested with yarn…..and pleaded.  Yes…maybe even harassed (gulp).  Ok, so harassed may be a bit strong, but finally Anne agreed that a little Whitfield Shorty Jacket just might be a good idea.  Yay…I just love Anne!

I am working on the test version and I can tell you that the pattern is mindlessly addicting.  Kind of like stockinette, but so much more interesting. :-)  The pattern will be available very soon.

I have also been working on a sweater.  The pattern is called Vitamin D and this is ONE FUN PATTERN!  Heidi's instructions are spot on and very complete, making this complicated looking sweater easy peasy.
Sorry about the large closeup.  I accidentally deleted the rest of my pictures of this wip.

So in-spite of some family stress there has also been some relaxing knitting in between …..growing up can be hard to do for both parents and children.

On another note, the shop is closed until July 23rd.  One of the nicest things about being the boss is actually being able to take a vacation.  I will be dyeing yarn to prepare for the Woolen Rabbit brick and mortar shop for a week and then I will be taking a week to just enjoy my family. 🙂

  1. Kim, I am so sorry you are having kid problems and that you’re sequestered! yikes
Vitamin D is on my list and I actually cast on and decided at the last minute to go with another sweater. I’ll be back to it in the fall. Can’t wait to see yours! Anne’s sweater looks so darling, well I guess it’s your grandsons little sweater, but it looks like a winner. Sending good kid vibes your way!! xoxo

  2. I recognized that pattern as the Whitfield jacket right away. I’ve always wanted to make one for Dale but it seems a little daunting, you know? I am ready for an update on the homefront situation.

  3. Wait, when will there be a brick and mortar store? I can’t wait! Finally a terrific place I’ve read about on blogs is going to be within my reach? Yay!! I totally agree with you about eating the young. Many times I wondered why I didn’t just raise dogs but now that everyone is in their twenties (or older!) life is good. Whatever doesn’t kill us makes us stronger!!

  4. Yay! So glad the Whitfield shorty is in testing…I have a little guy here I’m hoping to make it for. And the Vitamin D is on my list of drool-worthy. You’re hitting all my favs…including your lovely yarn 😉

  5. Turnabout is fair play….any time you need a shoulder! We’re going through quite a bit of drama here ourselves, so I can relate, sort of. I’ve been diving into a bottle of cold Sauvignon Blanc-which I buy by the case-every night and that gets the job done as far as sleeping. Mostly. Keep your chin up…it will either get better, or it will get worse.
Wait a minute…..BRICK AND MORTAR STORE?? Seriously? I might need to make a trip to New Hampshire!

  6. A break sounds good. There seems to be so much in your post that isn’t being said. It sounds like a respite is needed.
