Holey Moley…………..

Purple Handspun

This past spring at the NH Sheep and Wool festival I bought 2 nice bags of roving from Friends Folly Farm.  I bought these with a specific project in mind to spin for.

Old vest A good number of years ago now I once bought some beautiful roving from Spinner's Hill.  That roving became the yarn for my favorite vest.

Anyone who has been to my home more than once has probably seen me in it……I loved it that much.

As you can see however it has really taken a beating over the years.  The buttons are no longer there so it is held together with a pin and sadly there is a big hole in it….look close you will see it.

Hole in vest Who knows how it got started…maybe a moth, although nothing else has holes so probably not, but I could not bear to part with it.  I just pin it and wear it when I am dyeing or working in the barn.  Yes, I could have sewn it at one time before it got too big, but somehow I never found or rather I should say made the time.

Anyhoo, the first new vest is half finished so I am excited about that.  I think I am going to make a few of these as they work up quickly and are soooo comfortable and something fun to make with handspun yarn. 🙂

So what are you knitting with your handspun this winter?

  1. Hmm…I was going to knit a red scarf with some of it, but there wasn’t enough so now I’m considering a cowl. Or maybe not. I can’t decide.
The purple yarn is beautiful! And your vest is great, too. Sad that it’s got a hole but how nice that you got a lot of wear from it.

  2. I love hearing about well worn and favourite pieces. Thank you for the vest details. Your purple vest looks gorgeous!!
I plan to knit more wrist warmers from hand spun and maybe a cozy, big shawl.
