Potpourri………

Maplewing3
This has been one of those weeks where I have felt like the Jack of all Trades and the master of none.

I bet you know exactly what I am talking about…that feeling that you are diligently working on things, but not really accomplishing much.  I know that the stress from last week has a lot to do with this, but now that things are somewhat back to normal it will get better. 🙂

As you can see Maplewing is growing.  It's been a slow process because I am a slow knitter, but it has been a most enjoyable process.  I am moving onto the last section where the decreases are going to come fast and furious now, so I anticipate that this shawl will be finished and blocked next week.

Icelandic_alpaca bobbin
I do find when life is a wee bit stressful, I tend to find solace with my spinning wheels, so there has been more spinning than knitting happening here this week.  There is something so comforting in the mindlessness of sitting behind a big wheel and slowly treadling along.  As that wheel goes round and round it gives your mind a chance to relax and heal……..

On the big wheel I am working on some beautiful Icelandic/Alpaca that I purchased as Spa from Frelsi Farm.  Beautiful, beautiful roving!

Merino_tussah
On the smaller Van Eaton wheel I finished this batch of merino/tussah roving that I had dyed up for Spa.  While my spinning could have been a bit more consistent, I was pleased as punch when I took this yarn off the bobbin and it was completely balanced.  No twist one way or the other which is good….. now I need to just pay a bit more attention to getting my singles more consistent.

An Early Fitness Friday….
Ken and I are heading out early tomorrow to spend the weekend with Dan
and Jean.  It's our 15th anniversary and it will be my first trip ever
to NYC.  Can you believe it?  We are going to visit a few sights, get
dinner and then head to Broadway….wheee!  We are also going to visit Susan and her new babies on Sunday before we head back home to New Hampshire.  Ken and I are both looking forward to this weekend.  It's been a long time since we have been able to get away alone, without kids or dogs. 😉

Sooooo……I will do an early and short Fitness Friday

Fitness friday How are you guys doing?  Any successes that you want to share?  Any struggles that you need some support with?

I can tell you that I have had both…success and struggle.  Two weeks ago I was soooo good about exercising, then this week, not so good.  This week however I was pretty good about paying attention to my diet and was able to move the weight ticker down a little bit.

I have found that carbs and sugar are my enemies.  As much as I love bread and sweets, I am finding more and more that my body has a hard time with them.  The scale really starts to move in a downward direction if I stay away from them and moves right back up again when I eat them.  I will admit that it is hard at times though because who doesn't love bread or wine?

Another thing that really helps to get one motivated…………shopping!  EEeekkk!  With the warmer weather arriving I went shopping for a few short sleeved shirts and quickly realized that yes, I have lost weight….and yes……I have lots more to go, so lets hang in there and help each other along!

Website of the week: Kalyn's Kitchen
If you find like me that staying away from carbs is a good thing, then you will LOVE this website!  It's full of some great low carb recipes.

Have a fun and fit weekend!

  3. Hi Woolen Rabbit,
To answer your question: Five pounds so far.
As a carb addict I can’t touch any refined carbs. I break out in cravings and I’ve been known to find myself eating nonstop out of the boxes while standing in the pantry. If I stick to natural sweets in limited amounts I’m okay.
Have a good trip. I hope you enjoy.
Thanks for the link to low carb cooking.

  4. Thanks for picking my blog as website of the week! And I’m in complete awe of anyone who can knit; I never could turn out anything halfway presentable when I tried it!

  5. There’s something to eat and drink besides bread and wine? I guess that’s why I’m not doing so well…
Seriously – we usually don’t have bread very often, but I’ve been making homemade rye bread, and we can’t stop eating it. Must. Resist.
    Sigh.

  6. I’ve been loosing and then gaining the same 2-3 pounds for weeks now, but I’ve finally got the scale lower. I’ve been eating raw for breakfast and lunch and then eating a normal (but moderate portions) dinner and it seems to be helping.

  7. I am so looking forward to seeing your Maplewing. That is one of my most favorite of Anne’s designs – and in your yarn it is going to be incredible.
Spinning is such a lovely comfort, isn’t it. It is my hope that the rhythm of your wheel soothes your heart more and more each day.
    ((hugs))

  8. Maplewing is looking very pretty – and lovely spinning!
I’ve been very, very bad. Easter candy is my downfall. I need to get my widening ass onto my elliptical. sigh

  9. I’m down about 3-4#, my running is going well overall but I need to get into the pool (and ocean!) and on my bike….
drinking less wine has helped the scale as well as the steady exercise.
    I do have a training/workout post I just did on my blog….
