Roosting…

Rooster

I have been quietly hooking along these past evenings as we have been watching the Celtics march their way to the NBA championship.

How about those Celts….whoo hoo!  Many years ago, I shared season tickets to the Celtics when Larry Bird and company were playing and loved every minute of it.  Over the years, I have to admit, I kind of lost interest……..but it was SO fun to have a team to root for again!  What I like the best about this team…is that they are a team that plays in the best interest of the team.

Hooks
Ok….back to hooking.  I can already see glimmers of how dangerous this could become.  Over the years, I have slowly been decorating my house in what is called a primitive style and hooked rugs fit in nicely.

Usually if I want to add something to my home, if it is something that I could make, I try to find a class to learn how.  Typically I have found that the cost of the class and materials will cost the same as the finished product and the nice thing about doing it this way, is a skill is learned.

This is a brand new world of fiber for me……..the array of colors in some of the dyed wools I have seen are absolutely beautiful….and then there are these fantastic wooden hooking tools.   I can see how dangerous they could be……right up there with all of those beautiful spindles that I have….except these I think I might use more.

Brambler stars
There has been a little knitting here as well.  Over the weekend, I worked diligently on my Brambler scarf while we took a drive in the country…wait, I live in the country.  Well, you know what I mean….it was a brambling kind of drive, which was perfect for working on this scarf.

I really could take it off the needles now and block it, but I think this one is going to be twice the recommended length so that it can be wrapped a few times.  The yarn has such a pretty drape to it with all of the silk in it….this time I think longer will be better :).

  1. I love the rooster, it’s looking really good! The rings on the hooking tools, are they decoration only or do they serve a purpose? I’m really curious! 🙂

  2. Your rooster is looking wonderful; I love all the colours in him.
What is it about those wooden fibre tools? Lately I’ve been obsessed with choosing a new spindle (a Golding or Forrester, I’m thinking) and now you present these hooks. Maybe I will have to try rug hooking after all! I, like Josee, am wondering what the rings are for, and are there different sizes of hooks, as with knitting needles?
Your scarf looks so luxurious and touchable and the colour is indeed opulent.

  3. The rug is wonderful! My great grandma used to make these, and I have a bunch of her rugs (in storage right now.. alas, no hardwood floors)
It’s a wonderful addition to all the other fiber arts.
Bramble is so sweet as well – and I too love that color.. sigh…

  4. Aw, what a cute rooster! 🙂 And the rug-hooking tools look so appealing, like the shafts of hand-turned spindles. I can see how they would attract the eye of a “gear”-lover. 😉

  5. I love your rooster! I’m trying to avoid taking up rug-hooking (like I need another hobby. Especially one that creates another stash…) but seeing tempting things like this really makes it hard. I’ve noticed at the last few sheep&wool festivals I’ve been to that rug-hooking is becoming more visible. I have to avert my eyes at those booths, and chant “I’m NOT taking up rug-hooking. I’m NOT taking up rug-hooking.”
The truly hard part is, my grandmother hooked rugs, and I inherited all her tools. So, it would be so easy… Maybe just a coaster… Or two…
