Look What I Found Today!

Day_lilly_buds
Look!!  Those are the very first signs that Spring is actually going to visit the Valley this year…whoo hoo!
Of course what you do not see is the 5 foot snowbank right next to the bush that these little buds are hiding under….but that’s ok….this will do for today 🙂

It must be the yearning for Spring that keeps me coming back to these green colors.

The other day Anne asked if I wanted to test one of her quick scarf patterns…quick, fun and pretty, how could I resist?

I wanted to do it in a solid color so that the incredibly beautiful pattern would shine and this green literally jumped into the dye pot minutes later.  The color reminds me of the fiddleheads that we will see soon….and the airy pattern actually reminds me a bit of the ferns that you will find around fiddleheads often.

I guess I am going to have to admit it…..I am weak.  Remember I told you that another sock had caught my eye?  ….the temptress that she is, winked an eye at me and that was that.  I could not resist casting on immediately.

This is an incredibly easy pattern but with an air of sophistication.  Another fabulous sock for traveling, which we did again today.  (More about these weekend jaunts later in the week).

Now, just to prove that I can knit a pair of socks and lest you think that  I have completely abandoned litter Peter in the cabbage patch, I did immediately cast on and have completed the toe on the second sock.  This is one sock that will have it’s mate for sure!

  1. See, it is coming!! Just looks like it will never arrive!! I do like the green and it does remind me of ferns or hostas. Glad to see that sock number 2 is past the toe…Gina

  3. That green color is truly fabulous! Green, I think, is such a difficult color to acheive – too much yellow, and it’s icky, but too much blue and it’s no longer “green”, lol! You’re so right about them looking like fiddleheads! I hope Anne names her pattern that!

  4. What do you know!! If you have buds and sprouts, then we should too (Maine). It’s just that I can’t find them!! They’ll come, they’ll come. Don’t you just love Anne’s sock pattern? I have that one, but I’ve yet to start it. I’m glad you started on the second sock, so that it will be done, and you’ll be happy. It must be so rewarding to create your own colors and turn them into something beautiful!

  5. Oooh, I love the color and pattern of that scarf.
Love the little peek of Spring coming up from the ground, too. Gives us hope, doesn’t it?

  6. Hurrah for spring! And how lovely to see a bit of earth (and not just those enormous snow banks 🙂
    Your knitting looks wonderful.
Fiddleheads…. how fun. I haven’t had those since I lived in New England 22 years ago. Yummm.

  7. Kim,
I love the new fiddleheads color. Will you be dyeing this in sock weight to sell? I also think Anne’s new scarf pattern would look awesome with beads along the yo’s. What do you think? Dew drops on the fiddleheads?

  8. That Fiddleheads color is beautiful!
Glad to see you’ve got signs of spring popping up. Why does it seem spring will never come this year? Even here in NJ some 300 miles south of you, we’ve got nothing but chilly gloom.

  9. Ooooh! I really like your green and how your lace is coming along – but gosh! Anne’s is so nice too. I guess one can use two scarves 🙂 Hope to see this color offered soon.

  10. Hi Kim: lovely stuff. But not as lovely as the package I JUST received from you… your yarn is glorious, even better “live” than I had imagined. (I had ordered the Magic Carpet and the Days/Nights Shawl, one in the Days colourway, one in the Nights). Thank you thank you thank you.
I’d like to share my latest version of Spring with you in return: see http://brouhahaknits.blogspot.com/2008/04/april-showers.html
Now I want to make another one in one of YOUR yarns!!
