Bird Chatter…….

Oh_canada

Seven geese pierce straight line over frigid bay,
Intervals between them constantly equal,
Pointed wings slash as if joined to an axle;
Today is the ideal moment between yesterday and tomorrow.

As I was searching and searching through Ravelry the other day for some sort of lace scarf pattern to test knit my Opulence yarn with, I kept coming back to Anne’s newest pattern, Oh Canada

As I was putting my dogs out yesterday afternoon and a flock of geese flew overhead, that clinched it for me.  I wound the yarn and sat down with the pattern, which has a beautiful flow to it.  Lovely lace work, but simple enough to move along quite quickly.  I will be traveling this weekend and wanted something easy to work on to bring along with me.  This will be perfect!

It was very strange to see geese this far north flying at this time of year.  Every autumn, I always mention how sad I feel when the birds leave and how each March, I rejoice when I hear those little chirpy noises again.

This winter has been a strange one for sure in regards to the birds.  The robins were here much much longer than I have ever seen them stay and over the last week, I have heard a lot more bird chatter than I have ever remembered at this time in the winter.  Perhaps I am just more aware of them…..or something is just a bit different this year.  Hmmmmmm……….

  1. Anne’s pattern is a beauty, a great choice for your gorgeous yarn!
    It is so ominous seeing the animals disrupt their ususal routines. I’ve got a backyard full of geese right now, but for us that is not unusual for this time of year.
    There is a lot of press in your little state today. Have a great primary day!

  2. Looks good so far…can’t wait to try that yarn. It looks so soft! The geese are down here too (in droves), guess they are just a bit confused by the up and down temperatures…almost 70 the last couple of days!

  3. Oooh, so pretty! I love that pattern. Your color choice is so perfect. You’re making the scarf? I like that idea. When will your Opulence be ready? Yes, I expect all wildlife is confused.

  4. You’ve inspired me…I’m traveling by car for several hours myself this weekend and have not allegiance to my current projects! Have a great time. My son will be in Lincoln…

  5. I love that pattern too. And the combo with your yarn looks perfect.
    I’ve noticed that the birds are off this year as well. I wonder if they sense the seasons so differently than we do, or if it truly is changing on a rudimentary level.
    Have a safe journey to Texas.

  6. Robins don’t always migrate from New England and upstate NY. They roost in conifers and often will flock to feed if the day is warm(er) and calm. I saw dozens of robins in snow-free patches of meadow and plowed fields yesterday afternoon. Not a sign of spring:( It snowed last night and today.
