Tangled up in Blue..um…Yellow

Patience is a virtue
Aspired by many
Acquired by few…..

I don’t know who wrote the above quote, but it is one that I say to my kids and husband frequently.  Ironically, I am probably the most impatient one in the house…LOL.

Spinning 8 oz of superwash merino at a fine weight takes longer than I thought it would.  I had weighed out the balls so that I knew I had equal amounts to ply with….however, once the first bobbin was filled, I became impatient.  I wanted to ply now!!

Grabbing my ballwinder, I wound off the 4 ounces that I had spun on the bobbin.  As that center wound ball grew and grew, I got more and more nervous.  Crap….I am probably going to end up with a tangled mess!  Why did I do this, said thee to thyself?  Impatient…..I’m just plain old impatient   I was praying that this impatience was not going to land me with 4 ounces of wasted spinning.

As lady luck would have it though, I managed to ply all of the yarn without one snag.  The snag came in the washing….sigh.  Silly me, I only tied the yarn in one spot and unfortunately that tie did not hold up well when the yarn was soaking.

Can you guess what I will be doing this afternoon?

  2. I know this sounds bad, but I will learn from your experience that I need to take more care when I tie up my skeins of yarn. I have been known to only tie it once maybe twice, so now it will be in three places just for good measure. The yarn looks really nice it’s that any comfort!

  3. Yep, you only have to do that once to learn to tie in 20 places next time.

  4. Oh, no! My worst nightmare! I’ll remember your cautionary tale next time I tie up a skein for washing. I hope you didn’t have too much trouble setting things to rights.
Just received a skein of your merino/bamboo sock yarn ‘Elderberry Gold’ and a bag of sunset clouds… er… I mean, 2 oz. of angora Red Maple roving. Well, it LOOKS and FEELS like clouds! Yum. Ordered Thursday (using my husband’s PayPal account) and it arrived here in Louisiana on Monday. WOW – that’s fast service, girlfriend! Sooooo soft and pretty – I can’t wait to start spinning/knitting!

  5. an unfortunate tangle indeed – yikes!
I know you’ll be able to undo it – deep zen breaths and move slowly. I’ve done this too, (I suspect that most of us have!)
You will undoubtedly enjoy this yarn even more from all the work you’ve put into it.
    It’s lovely btw!
