“Girl Friends”……….Nov. 27, 2006

PeasLast year, I had bought 2 of these little books.  One for me and one for a close friend.  She and I were both hoping to take off some weight and wanted to encourage each other along the way.  I bought these little journals with it’s cheery words as a gift of friendship to help us.

Over the year, my friend and I lost touch.  She took a new job and my life became incredibly busy with the added responsibilities in my job.  I have tried a few times to reach out to this friend, but for whatever reason, her life has taken a different path, which makes me a bit sad, as I miss our daily chats….but l understand that life happens and sometimes friends move on.  Anyhoo…….I was going somewhere with all of this.

A few of you commented on how nice it was to see a picture of me on my blog.  Now some of you know me well enough to know how much I hate to have my picture taken.  I have put a lot of weight on over the last few years and even more so this year with my butt glued to my computer chair.  In my mind’s eye, I still see the slim me, so when I catch a glimpse of myself in a picture, I go screaming for the hill’s……..eeekk!! LOL!

Well, I posted that picture for a reason.  I pulled out my little journal (still unused) as I truly need to take this weight off and now is the time.  Even though I have lost touch with my old dear friend, I realized that I have new friends who are wonderfully supportive…..YOU! :-).  I am not going to bore anyone with my diet over the months, (I have created a private blog for that), but every now and then, I will brave the camera and put up a picture…hoping eventually the picture in my mind will match the picture in the camera :-).  Thank you for your friendship!

  1. Many friends do come and go which is often sad. It’s very nice when you can replace them with many! Putting weight on…more wrinkles on an older face, whatever the change, it is difficult to face ourselves at times. Good luck!
Your yarn is so pretty! Nice work.

  3. We’re here for you, Kim! Good luck in your endeavors – when you do things for the right reasons (ie, when you want it and when you do it for yourself), the journey is somewhat easier.
Thank you for showing the “as is” and reskeined yarns. The difference is always remarkable. I especially like the color combination of the pink and gold.

  5. We’re all in this together, sweetie. You’ve got my support.
I love that yarn. Great colors. 😀
As for friends, they come and go sometimes. That’s okay. It’s sad, but it’s okay. In this life you will lose some friends and gain new ones. The process is painful, but often necessary. They will change, and you will change because life is change. From time to time they must find their own way, and that way may not be yours. Enjoy them for what they are. And remember them for what they were.

  7. I hear you, Kim! My excuse for not often knitting garments for myself is “I’ll wait until I lose weight, or it’ll be too big!”
Maybe I should stop talking about losing weight and just do it already!

  9. Kim, that is very brave of you! I am heavier than ever these days, and while it could be worse, it could be better! I know several other bloggers who are actively working to lose some weight and I think “going public” can be a good motivator.
    Best of luck with it!
    Beautiful yarn, too.

  11. I was so happy to put a face with the blog-voice when you put up the picture! Most of all, I noticed the lovely hand-knits, the smile, and the sweet way you held your puppy. We can be our own worst critics – I hate pictures of myself too and see only the negative. I thought it was a great picture…good luck with with your new healthy plan!

  13. I know how hard it is to lose weight. I have lost 40lbs. over the past two years. My goal was to lose 80 lbs., but then reality set in. I’m over 40 and have had three kids! I just have to watch my portion sizes and make better choices. It is hard during the holidays. I’ll keep you in my thoughts!!

  15. Hey there Kim. I’m very proud of you. I have spent a lifetime struggling with weight, and it will always be a challange for me. Good for you for pursuing health even without your old friend…you are right…you have many many new encouragers in your life! And perhaps you have even motivated me a bit 😉 I’ll be cheering for you!

  17. I also hate to see pics of myself. I’m organizing family pictures from the last six years, and I can count on one hand how many there are of me. But your picture is beautiful! Before I took my blogging break I had put on weight as well. I made a real effort to spend less time in front of the computer (blogs), and more time on the treadmill and exercising. It’s taking time, but I figure it took time to accumulate as well. Good luck!

  21. This post really hit home with me — some friendships just ebb and flow and well I understand it, it’s still sad. You know — you are SO beautiful, both outside and inside. But, I’m with you on the weight loss. My 30s were a decade of kids and gain. So, I’m with you on moving forward to healthier selves.
