Walk With Me Wednesdays….Nov. 8, 2006

Rain

Rain………doesn’t look very promising, does it?

This morning as I was laying in bed, I knew it was raining.  Most mornings, the dogs let me know in their not so unsubtle way that the sun is up and it is time to start the day.  When it rains however, it is a very different story…..you see……..Cavaliers HATE the rain!  So, this morning, as I listened to the soothing sounds of rain hitting the metal roof over my bedroom and enjoying the unusual morning quiet, I had serious doubts about Walk With Me Wednesday.

Cleo was going to be my walking companion today as I want to get her leash trained and ready to show………that wasn’t looking promising either.  This little Texas miss, in addition to not really liking the rain, has not gotten used to the colder temps yet either.  She goes to great lengths to keep her little toes from getting cold.  This big rock in the dog yard is where you will usually find her…..and usually standing on 3 legs, alternating which foot she will put down…..haha!  Yep, a little princess for sure…LOL.  Wait until she meets snow….

So, resigned to the fact that a walk was not going to happen, I figured I would cross the street and take one picture of the rain hitting the pond.  It would only take a minute or two…..so I thought, but once I headed down the little path, with the eyes of a photographer, those seconds turned into mintues and then almost an hour!  You see, the rain has never bothered me, in fact, I actually enjoy rainy days.  Some of my favorite rainy days were spent walking on the beach, near where I grew up (but that’s for another day).

The rain just seemed to intensify the beauty of the drabness that is typical of November here………

So even though, I hadn’t anticipated a walk today, I was pleasantly surprised.  It is amazing to me that by offering to join Judy on her weekly walks, how much I have enjoyed the solitude in the middle of my normally busy days and a new found appreciation for my surroundings.  Thanks Judy!

  1. Cleo is just so cute!!! My dogs aren’t real fond of the rain either!! Snow just doesn’t seem to bother them, but the below zero temps do!! Hopefully we won’t have many below zero days this winter!! You are a great photographer!!

  3. Kim! Cleo is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. You must love her to bits! I know she’s sweet, because all Barb’s pups are! 🙂 Enjoy!

  5. That is so funny about Cleo. When I lived in IL, I had a rescued Greyhound and she hated the snow. Anytime there was snow and we let her out back to use the facilities, she would do her business right on the back porch to avoid going in the snow.

  7. You are so very welcome. We are enjoying your walks, too. It doesn’t matter how out of sorts or impatient I am when I leave for my walk, when I return, I have acheived a balance. Thanks, Kim. btw.. it was drizzling here all day, and the color and feel to the air were especially inviting.

  9. When I first got Syd, having come from relatively warmer Tennessee via the rescue, she would not do ANYTHING if it was snowing. It took 3 days of holding it before she finally was convinced it was safe. Of course, living in VT, she actually grew to love the snow, but those first few days were touch-and-go. 🙂

  13. I love your walks too, Kim. Thanks for sharing. My dog hates the rain… She has an electronic fence so she spends her days chasing squirrels and cats out of our yard… sunny days that is. If it’s raining, she won’t set foot outside unless I get the leash out… so it’s rainy days that I have to walk her.

  21. I can’t stop smiling at Cleo up on that rock looking like she’s in the midst of the terrible twos! I remember some face-offs with my kids like that.
The Walk With Me pictures are simply gorgeous – I especially like the reflections of the trees on the pond.
