Seconditis…..Sept. 13, 2006

One of the things that I love most about blogland is the never ending supply of inspiration.

One of the things that I hate most about blogland is the never ending desire to want to do it ALL!!

When I am  in the carding wool mode, I get a chance to catch up with what is going on with you all, as my carder is in the same room as my computer. So as I feed the wool into the carder, I flip from blog to blog., oohing and aahing over all that everyone is accomplishing.  The lace….the shawls, the sweaters for Rhinebeck and the socks.  Oh the socks!!

Sock_close I have wanted to learn how to either knit on 2 circs or give the magic loop a try for some time.  After sitting with a kindly soul who whetted my taste for a new way of knitting socks, I grabbed this little booklet at Patternworks this weekend and gave it a try.  As much as I wanted to dive head first into some of the nice sock yarn I have been gifted with this summer, I heard the whisper of No….No…..you MUST finish the second sock that you started this winter.  You see, I have this awful disease……seconditis.  I am great at plowing thru the first sock, the first mitten or the first glove, but I get strangely distracted at the thought of doing it again…LOL.

I am hoping that this new method might cure seconditis!  We will see………… 🙂

  1. That booklet will teach you the technique much better than I did! I may be kind but I’m not a gifted teacher. That said, if you get going on Magic Loop then we can refine your technique together at Rhinebeck. Wheeee!

  3. We’re on the same wave length again. Too much fun stuff in Blogland! I’ve been thinking the ML would be good for travel knitting. Just not sure I want to buy looooooong needles when I have so many DPNs.

  5. When I first started knitting socks, I used one very long circular for it. That was the way I had always knit sleeves, so I just naturally tried it with socks. I believe the way I do it is pretty much the same as magic loop. Then one day I tried it with dpns, and I found I liked it better! So now I do occassionally do the one long circ method, but I much prefer the dpns. I feel like I go quicker without having to stop and pull the loops through. But so many people who started out on dpns, swear by the magic loop now. I’m curious to hear how you like it 🙂
