Winter Days or Are They?……..Feb. 22, 2006

SedumSeize the mountain spirits,
Make them divulge their secrets.
Only with strength is there discovery

Deng Ming~Dao

Today when I was outside, I took a look at the garden bed that is against the house.  Imagine my surprise when I saw these little green Sedum heads poking out of the dirt!  Now remember, I live in the mountains….eek!  Is it going to be a glorious early spring……or is it Global Warming?  As much as I adore this early, warm weather, it is almost disconcerting.  Let’s hope that Mother Earth is just smiling on us this winter!

Fibery Stuff

Purple_diamondsI didn’t participate in the Knitting Olympics as I knew that my plate was much to full to put that kind of pressure on myself, but I have been unusually productive <giggle>.  The malabrigio sweater is moving along at a nice pace.  I have been spending so much time in the living room just watching the puppies grow and knitting, that this sweater is just growing right along with the babies.

Diamond It has been one of the most enjoyable knits I have had in a long time.  Have I told you how much I am enjoying this Malabrigio yarn?  Because I am 😉

Fiery_embersI have managed to squeeze a little dyeing in this week.  I was so disappointed to miss the Spa, that I put the dye pots away last week. However, looking at the pile of naked merino, just begging for some pretty colors, was just too much to pass by.

I am looking ahead to the Denmark Sheep Festival in April and the Fiber Frolic in June.  Hopefully I will see you there 😉

Puppies
I put this down at the bottom, as I know………this is a fibery blog, but I just love taking photos of the babies and sharing them like a proud Mum.

  1. The sedum sprouts, pups, all part of rural renewal. Most years in the parts where I live have sprouts of different kinds coming up with warm temps, and then stalled for the rest of the winter (chives, daylilies, daffs, tarragon, peonies, among others). They seem to do fine.

  3. Kim, your dyeing is incredible. I have fallen deeply in love with Fiery Embers and I’m not an orange person at all. Is this an orderable colour?
Dude. You’re getting way adventurous. 😉
I know I promised you a periwinkle crayon. Don’t worry, after the Olympics, I’ll get myself together, promised….

  7. The sweater is really coming along. I’ve never seen it knit up. Looks beautiful. I really missed seeing you at SPA. Thanks for all your kindness tho’, I was happy to have gone. I saw tulip heads peaking up through the once again frozen ground. I know those leaves will be mishapen. We’ll see what survives. Gorgeous warm colors.

  9. I’ll be checking my sedum on the next dog walk outing. We’ve officially started mud season here. The ground hardly got frozen this winter, nor did the pond. Very strange.
Personally, I love the puppy pictures best of all. I could easily sound like a broken record every time you post one. So precious! So cute! So wonderful! So sweet! Please post more!

  13. Wow – the sweater is zipping along. Must be the magical powers of Malbrigio! And I love the idea of “just watching the puppies grow”. 😉
We won’t even talk about the color of that roving. Ahem.

  15. I think spring often comes earlier than we expect. I find that my plants just poke their noses through the soil, then do no more for a few weeks. As a result, I often miss them altogether.
My crocuses are just about finished, as are the snowdrops. The early daffodils are long since gone, but the mid-season ones are budding nicely. Of course, the snow this morning might have made them think a bit!

  17. My mom always said that it’s not spring until it snows on the daffodils twice! But isn’t it a precious site to see the new growth despite the forcast?

  23. I don’t know how I missed this post for a whole week?! The puppies are precious – I don’t know how you get any knitting or dying done with so many of them to love and squeeze on. Your rovings are so YUMMY looking! Like a shot of vitamin C and sunshine mixed together. 🙂
