How can it be December 10th already? The days they are just flying by it seems. One of the things that has also crept up on me is rabbit shearing. I like to do it the beginning of December, so that they have the next 3 months to grow back coat during the coldest part of winter. So, every day, I have been bringing a bunny in for it’s new "do".
Meet Savvy. She is the first of my "wine" line. Savvy is short for Savigon Blanc.
Savvy comes from the newer import lines and if you remember, she was the mother of the litter this past summer that did not survive. This girl’s coat is simply amazing! I took 14 oz of luscious white angora off of her and of that 14 oz’s, 11 of it is prime, usable wool, that will be dyed and then blended with merino. I am scheduled to be a vendor at the NETA Spa this February, so I figured I had better get my butt in gear and start working on fiber again. Amazing how the days fly by as we get older, eh?
Now, given that it has been pretty cold out, I worry about my little guys getting a chill after a haircut. Each one of them has a custom made sweatshirt sleeve jacket to wear after a haircut in the winter. Savvy is a BIG girl, so she has the biggest of all. She is such a delightful and patient rabbit. Now, if I could have 10 more like her, I would be one happy Woolen Rabbit 😉
As the day drew to an end, the sunset was a memorable one. I thought that I would share with you how the day ends here in the North Country. (Here’s to you Sandy!)
Have a GREAT weekend
and keep warm!

Just so you know, those New England folks can’t have all the bunny stuff – after the holidays, I’ll want more too! 😉

The pre-hair cut Savvy made me think of the Tribbles from Star Trek. I’m absolutely amazed at how much wool could come from one rabbit!

Gorgeous sunset. I really like hearing about the bunny lifestyle, and how the angora comes about.

She looks so tiny after her haircut – hard to believe all that was fur, not bunny.

Periwinkle paint chips coming your way 😉
She’s gorgeous…and what a name for a bunny…
Now that I see what the little muffin has to deal with to give me wool, I’m even more grateful. Hugs to the bunnies and to you!

What a beautiful bunny you have! Wish mine was that nice and gentle instead of a biting bunnie. Great idea with the sweatshirt “coat”!

Your pictures look like Japanese prints. You should make them into greeting cards!
That is a ton of bunny fluff! She needed a haircut more than I did;-)

She is so beautiful! Questions: how do you tell which is prime? How do you blend with merino- can you do it using those big brush things (I forget the name of them)?
I love the little sweatshirt arm jackets. My babies wear them too!
