S.T.R.E.S.S………July 24, 2005

Savvy3Do you notice anything different in this picture of Savvy since my last post?

Of course you don’t……..because there isn’t!  Grrr…..!!

Now rabbits are typically very punctual when it comes to birthing babies.  The good bunny book says 31 days and by God, when day 31 rolls around they kindle……but not this one.  I was told that both her mother and her sister kindled on day 33.  Being that this is a line of rabbits that I am not familiar with, as she is mostly of the new import lines that have come to the USA, I figured….ok……most does and animals in general follow familiar traits when it comes to birthing……but come ON…….we are on day 34!!  She is going to give birth to baby monsters!

I pulled her out of her cage again to day and held her on my lap just to make sure that I could still feel the babies moving..yup, still wiggling away.  Checked to make sure there were no unusual discharges that would indicate a dead fetus……….everything looks fine and she does not appear to be in any stress…..so what gives??
Geez…….I know I am in the throws of menopause and sometimes the memory isn’t what it should be, but I just can’t believe I didn’t write down the right breeding date in my day book……….at least I don’t think I could have…..I swear……I don’t think I could have……hmmm……

ConcerndogHeck, even the dogs are getting concerned……….they wonder why Mum is going up and down those bunny stairs a gazillion times a day.  Of course Dad says……."Hey, the girl probably wants a little privacy"…
Birchprog5but then, what does he know about birthin’ bunnies?

I figure, given that she is the beginning of my Wine Line, Woolybuns Savigon Blanc, those babies are just aging like a fine wine before they make their appearance. (if I survive this kindling)  All of this worry and stressing has had one good thing come out of it……..I have spent alot of time birching!

  2. You sound like such an over anxious mommy..:) No wonder the dogs look at you so worried. I’m pretty sure everything is ok? 🙂 Your birch is turning out real well.

  3. I’ve had a few does go 35 days. Of course, I could have made an incorrect notation in the breeding book. I remember giving up on one doe and taking out her nest box. The next morning I was working with the cage below hers and straightened up to see her glaring at me over a huge mouthful of her feed hay. I dashed out, got a box for her and she kindled within half an hour!

  4. I hope she continues to not be in distress and that the kindling, when ever it chooses to happen, goes very smoothely. I’ll be thinking about you!

  5. Ahhh, I can fully empathize on your angst – having gone through it enough times! Parsley, especially combined with something else (raspberry leaves?? I’ll go look it up) is supposed to be a labor inducer. Got my fingers crossed for a good outcome!!

  7. My thoughts are with you and mom…thank goodness we have our knitting during stressful times. You’ll think of the doe and kits every time you wear Birch.
