How Can It Be Christmas Season Already?? … Nov. 30, 2004

Star_1

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone and the Christmas Season is fast approaching.  Every year we string this Star up on our barn…..it has become a family tradition for us.  The one year we didn’t put it up, our neighbors all wondered what happened to it, so every year now, we grace the street with our star.  For some reason the Christmas Spirit has LEPT gotten into my DH.  He was outside tonight furiously stringing up his strands of lights…..hehe……kind of reminiscent of Chevy Chase.

Most of my current knitting is destined to be Christmas presents and as my older children are now reading my blog, it makes it a wee bit hard for show and tell, so I thought that I would share some of the Thanksgiving pictures that my camera buff brother snapped.  We had a lovely time together.  I am very blessed to have a kind and supportive family…….who all get along :-).

Then the "hip corner"Hipcorner_1 (dd’s boyfriend, dd, ds)

…nope, haven’t lost all of those lbs yet, but workin’ on it πŸ™‚

and then the camera guy’s (db) family Broscorner_3

It’s pretty scarey when you can’t fit a family into one picture..LOL.  I am going to have to rent a hall once all of the kids grown and have families……..ouch!

Tongue

A good time was had by all, both 4 legged and 2 legged.  As I said, I am very blessed.  I hope that you all had as nice of a Thanksgiving as we did here.

Blog Surfing
Every morning, I share my cup of coffee with all of the blogs that I enjoy reading.  This morning however, I read a blog that kind of ruffled my feathers.  Now…..it was not Kerstin that ruffled my feathers…….it was her post about how most insurance companies will not cover birth control pills, but the majority of them will cover Viagra.  How twisted is that????  As the mother of a daughter in college who dealt with this over the Thanksgiving weekend, it is just infuriating to have to jump thru hoops to help our girls protect themselves from getting pregnant, but then we enable men on the other hand and pay for it!

It hardly seems fair that insurance companies will pay for Viagra, but yet deny birth control claims. How can it possibly make sense to deny birth control claims, but yet pay for pregnancies……..isn’t paying for preventative measures, cheaper in the long run for insurance companies and taxpayers than paying for birthing and raising unwanted children??  Call me dense, but I don’t get it??  Hopefully if enough women demand that their voices be heard, that change will come about……..one can hope.

On a more positive note………one of the things that I am most thankful for this year, is the new friends that I have met thru fiber and blogging.  The blogging community is such a close knit (pun intended) community.  Jeansbeads

One of my new blogging friends, Jean, sent me these little cuties.  The beads are from Venice……a couple are missing from the picture……they are already on a few needles.  I just LOVE them!  Thank you Jean!!

  1. Lovely family (including the pooch) and you are very welcome for the stitch markers.
I don’t get the viagra/bc thing either. You’d think that people running big companies like that would have more common sense….

  2. I see you are reading a book by Jody Picoult – she is quite an author! I’ve read several of her books and DD quickly grabs each as I’m finished.
Hey, I envy your skills with blogging – you do a very nice job! I can now get photos in the blog but I haven’t figured out how to get a link to photo albums on the sidebar yet.

  3. Funny….I just got denied for birth control and I was thinking that it was a lot less expensive than a baby!!
I still haven’t made my stitch markers. I am so lame. Things have been so crazy here. with building the house, and homeschooling. But I HOPE to have them done for Christmas!!
Oh, another thing about Viagra- the rate of sexually transmitted diseases has skyrocketed among the nursing home population, from what I hear….yuck!!

  4. Looks like you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Glad you got in a lot of family time, and sounds like you are getting ready for Xmas too.
I told D all I wanted this year was a new house. πŸ˜‰ Not too much to ask, ya think?

  5. Ah, I hate getting into this issue because I feel so strongly about it!
Think about this: Insurance comapanies make more money if people breed. If you are on low cost or free birth control, you aren’t breeding and can stay on it as long as you want. This is bad for insurance companies. They want more people so that their coffers increase.
I pay full price for my B/C pills, and gladly. I’d much rather be paying through the nose for birth control than pregnant! πŸ™‚ I’m just not ready for that…
    And your family is lovely!

  6. I loved the book “Plain Truth”. She writes a great story. Glad you had a nice holiday. That little Dora is as sweet as can be.Every time I see a picture of her, brings me closer to getting a new dog. I lost my Brandy(cocker) almost 2 years ago at 14 years of age. I still miss him everyday.
