Help……….We’re drowning!!…….August 30, 2004

This has been a full week :-)), pull up a chair, a mug of coffee and enjoy……

Swimming in Sweat
Not a very pretty sub-title, eh? Oh my………..the humidity here must be 100%……..YUCK!!!!! Every time I think that I could be convinced to move down to the Southern Pennsylvania area, where my husband’s family lives, it only takes 4 days in a row of this incredibly nasty humid weather to remind me why I enjoy living in the mountains of NH!! Now mind you, my loom and my computer (where I work) are located in the only air-conditioned room in the house, so guess what I did today…hehe…..I worked on my loom. I have finished 3 towels and am still working at it. badyarnThe one thing that slowed me down incredibly, was some very difficult yarn. This was a one pound centerwound ball of lovely organic yarn…….not good!! Folks please remember, with thin yarn, it is better to wind them into smaller centerwound balls, to avoid irritating tangles………especially if you are selling the yarn 🙂

wiringOn top of all of this heat and humidity, is my poor kitchen. Here is a little peek of hell…LOL I am not going to complain though, because at the end of this rainbow, will be my pot of gold……a brand sparkling new kitchen, but oy……..not fun living in the land of MESS!!

Secret Pal 2
secretpal2 I got presents!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE!! This has been such a blessed stressful summer and what a nice treat to receive presents. My secret pal sent a cute little knitted bag with very pretty beading around the top edge and a lovely blown glass pendent. I can’t wait for fall to arrive, so that I can wear a nice turtleneck to show off this pretty pendant. Being a redhead, this is sure to look nice against of the rust colors that I am partial to. Thanks, Secret Pal!! :-))

PUPPIES
Where does puppy breath come from…..I wonder? No matter what the breed, what the size or shape, that sweet puppy breath is always the same. The puppies are now growing in leaps and bounds. They had their first adventure today, the great wilderness of the outdoor world. 5wkpups1……… It is a wee bit scary out there Mom!! From there it was back into the house where they were introduced to another new adventure…………..
litterboxTHE LITTER BOX!! I have been raising puppies now for over 8 years and it was only last year that I finally relented and gave the new dog litter boxes with condensed news litter a try and let me tell you……..I was scratching my head wondering why I didn’t do this years sooner. It makes potty training so much easier and much sweeter to the nose. Do ya think they have enough toys??

THE BABY BUNNIES
cutebunCute, cute, cute…..what more can I say. These guys just get cuter by the day and that fiber is also growing by the day. Mom is telling me that she would like to have her cage to herself again, so I guess it will be back to the cage store for a few more cages. I keep saying that I won’t keep any more bunnies……but……..”HONEY, they are SOOO CUTE!”……and with that lucious fiber, they pay for themselves to stay :-)))) What you don’t see in the background is all of those bags of fiber just waiting to be blended or spun. Why is it that we fiber people tend to be such “stashers?” I guess, for me, it is that fear of a rainy day with nothing to do…..haha! Imagine that….:-/

ON TO KNITTING
Well, the waves socks will be finished this evening and I will get a picture posted in the next few days.

flowerbasket2However, that alpaca keeps calling out to me. I love the color and the feel of this baby alpaca that I am using for the Flower Basket Shawl. It is supposed to be charcoal, but the color actually looks like a green/charcoal blend. YUMMY! This is an easy lace pattern……one that needs paying attention to, but fun to work up all the same. I am really enjoying this knitting. Lace is one of my favorites!

OFF TO COLLEGE
ashpupSunday brought us bringing my middle daughter, Ashley back to college. Ashley is starting her second year at

Plymouth State University, in New Hampshire. Ashley has always been dear to my heart, but I have to say that even “SHE” has had a case of the obnoxious growing up child this summer. Why is it that our children think that WE know nothing and THEY know everything?? Of course, WE, know that THEY, WILL realize that WE really did know a few things, soon enough…haha. As much as she was driving me a wee bit crazy, it is always brings a sense of sadness when we bring one of the older kids to school. Ashley is such a good kid. Have fun at PSU, sweetie!

newyarnOf course, being sad, meant that I needed to uplift my spirits, a wee bit. So………while I was school shopping with one of my younger daughters yesterday, I took a side trip to a local yarn store called Four Corners Yarn Shop, in Standish, Maine. Look at what I found 🙂 I couldn’t help it………..they just lept into my bag…………hehe. The yarn on the right is handpainted Opal sock weight yarn in lovely autumn colors and the yarn on the left is a scrumptious handpainted yarn from Schaefer, called Anne. Although, it is a merino, mohair blend, it feels every bit as soft as my baby alpaca yarn. This is going to be some sort of a scarf to match the pretty pendant that my SP2 sent.

AND FINALLY, I DON’T DANCE!
I have this wonderful, kind, thoughful, supportive and oh yeah… goodlooking DH, who doesn’t dance….LOL!! This year as we greeted the New Year, once again, sitting home with the 2 younger girls, I made a resolution. It was not only a resolution, but kind of a challenge. I resolved to loose 50 pounds this year and the challenge part, was if I lost those 50 pounds that my DH was going to have to take me to the Mount Washington Hotel for a night of dining and dancing. I have lost 15 pounds over the course of the year, but being , the procrastinator that I can be, it is now time for me to get serious…….so as of September 1st…….the race is on! Of course, my dear husband is cringing and telling me that it is only a competition when BOTH parties agree…haha!! I may let him off the hook with fast dancing, but “A Dancing We Will Go” come Dec. 31st. I will monitor my progress from here on out, as being that competitive person, having a reason to be motivated always helps. :-))) Look for me in my dancing shoes on New Year’s Eve!!

Have a great week

  1. I just LOVE your Anne yarn. I have one skein that I’ve been foolishly “saving” for just the right pattern. I’ll be curious to see what you make from yours. I don’t care what anyone tells you, kitchen remodels are stressful. Here’s what we went through last spring:

  3. Hi Kim,
We have a few things in common. My husband is from South Central PA (Chambersburg). I lived there from 4 years. Beautiful country…But, how I remember that humidity. I live over in the Seacoast of NH. We moved back here to NH three years ago. I just finished the Flower Basket shawl. I have a unblocked picture on my blog. I am hoping to block it next week.Good luck with your challenge and dust off those dancing shoes.By the way. Hope your daughter loves PSU, that is my Alma Mater.

  4. P.s to my above note… I was just telling my husband that your husband was from Pa. I went back and scrolled down your blog. Then I saw he was from Chambersburg. Of course my husband is curious now…lol. Our last name is Lehman. Feel free to drop an email.

  5. Hello, I stumbled across your web log and thought we had a lot in common, especially the need to try and do ALL fiberarts simultaneously! I have two looms, one of which is taking up my dining room table with a 3/4 completed table runner, I have an Ashford Traveler spinning wheel that is so buried in my yarn clost… I have been wanting to spin, but thought I’d wait until winter sets in. Oh! and the knitting! Please, there isn’t enough room here to tell you! I sympathize about the kitchen remodeling, having endured that seven years ago in the heat of the summer! I live in Southern NJ…? Where do you live?? Not too far from what I gather… Anyhow, I have added you to my blogger list! 🙂

  6. My sympathies on the kitchen mess. We remodeled two years ago (although not the kitchen) and had to sleep in our sun room for a month – it was like sleeping in a goldfish bowl. But the end product is worth it. I’ve already forgotten the mess! Sympathies too on the humidity. We live on an island off the coast of Washington so we seldom have high humidity. It sure can drain the energy out of you! The puppies are precious. My husband and I have considered a King Charles, but the cost is discouraging us. But they are cute, cute, cute!

  7. Hey Kim, maybe you and I should compare “losing” notes. I’ve lost about 25 pounds so far, 10 pounds the first month or so, then the same 5 pounds the three months after that!!! LOL Enjoy dancing with that handsome husband of yours!!
As for the kitchen, I so sympathize! I’m writing this to the sounds of my handsome husband hammering away as he re-installs the doors he finally got painted. Now only 4 more doors to go, then he can start back on the walls in the upstairs hallway and by the front door. He doesn’t dance either and my losing weight won’t change that, but he’s a darn good bunny babysitter as well as remodeler so he’s a keeper!
