Happy New Year!

This is the moment of embarking.
All auspicious signs are in place.
In the beginning, all things are hopeful.  We prepare ourselves to start anew.  Though we may be intent on the magnificent journey ahead, all things are contained in this first moment; our optimism, our faith, our resolution, our innocence.

Hello dear friends!

Somethings always remain the same and true, which is why I always use this inspiring Tao quote to start off my year and this year is no different.

Last year when I wrote my yearly post, I set some goals for the upcoming year.  Goals like committing to the crafts that I have loved over the years but have let some lapse. Weaving, sewing, reading and walking.

This year I worked on getting consistent sourdough bread results, which is not always easy, but I am succeeding more and more!
I finished a few quilt tops that I will share over the next weeks as I get them on the quilting machine and quilted.
I also took an online class with the amazing quilter and teacher, Linda Diak. She taught us how to create an incredible cardinal by fusing beautifully colored fabric to create a whole picture. This happy bird is also waiting to be quilted. I guess I will be spending a lot of time soon behind the big quilting machine! Learning this machine over the last year has really helped my hesitations at using it.

I am still walking again daily and this year I exceeded my book reading goals by 6 books!

I have been walking with iFit trainer Tommy Rivs 5-6 days a week on my treadmill and have also stayed consistent with my Italian lessons, now on day 275 in a row. Both of these things have become an ingrained habit and I rarely miss doing either unless there is a reason.

I feel good about what I accomplished when I look back at 2025.  Next year I will continue to work on creating new things.  My loom has 8 harnesses, but I have ever only used 4 of them.  This year I will take on the challenge of 8 harness weaving.  It was a goal for last year that I did not meet, so it’s a new goal for this year again.
One of my goals is to also make writing here an ingrained habit like my walking and Italian lessons, so we’ll see.

I’m looking forward to reading and walks….and new travel adventures in 2026!

Oh….and I came up with a word for next year! I have not done a word in a long time but one word just kept jumping out at me, so I going with it. I share more about this on Monday

This year promises to have some challenging days ahead, but keeping a positive attitude will help us meet the challenges!

Whew this is more than I have posted on this day in a long time! Hopefully I won’t let too much time lapse again.

Normally I do not join knit-alongs because I am a notoriously slow and easily distracted knitter, however Joji Locatelli is doing a one skein Mystery Shawl for the month of November that had me jump in with both feet! She stressed that it would be easy to complete in the time frame given. I have also wanted to test knit one of the yarns that I have in stock right now, so a small and quick knit seems like the perfect fit!

You can find more information on Joji’s Ravelry page where you can purchase the pattern and join along if you would like. I won’t be showing many progress pictures as it is a mystery shawl and Joji has requested that we don’t post pictures that will give it away, but you might see this picture above show up here and there.

One of the problems with being an easily distracted knitter is the I often miss mistakes and then the project languishes for me to get back to it. While the pattern called for K2,P2 for the sleeve cuff like the the sleeve on the top, my brain kicked into a 1×1 cuff for the second one…oops.

I also took the time to correct the 1×1 knitting that I did at the bottom of the sweater and made it just a little bit longer. Once I finish the sleeve cuff I know that this sweater will get a lot of wear. Normally I can’t wear scratchy wool, but for some reason this Jamieson Shetland wool is actually comfortable and comforting to wear.
I have another sweater that I need to give a little love to as well so that I can wear it more often too. I’ll share more about that one in a future post.

Goodness it is such a blustery day here in New Hampshire!
