One of the things I miss most during Winter is the ability to get out and walk. It's just too icy to walk on the sidewalks with sneakers, so this year I convinced Ken that we should give snowshoeing a try, and he was game!
Fortunately someone he works with had some spare snowshoes that they were willing to lend us so that we could give it a try.

Wow…what a treat to get out and enjoy the beautiful area that we call home!
We live very close to the Tin Mountain Center in Albany, NH, which has numerous hiking trails that are also good for showshoeing. It is 10 minutes away and such a quiet woodland oasis with beautiful trails that are well markedl.

Sunday on our first time out we chose what looked to be the shortest trek on the Tin Mountain Map, figuring best not to try something that we might not be ready for…or if we even would enjoy it. It was the Maple Leaf Trail.
Well..hey! We loved it! The trek was pretty easy, even for 2 old farts and so beautiful. I can't tell you how much it made my heart smile to hear all of my bird friends singing away on this beautiful sunny day as we sloshed along.

Ken and I both had Monday off and we decided to give it another try to see if we really liked this enough to invest in some snowshoes of our own. This time we tried a bit more challenging trek. This hike had has going up and down some steeper hills (and yes, these were just hills, not mountains) and it was fun to see how well the snowshoes helped us go up both up and down the inclines.
I have to tell you, I am not the most graceful person…truly, gravity is not always my friend, but I felt like I was on top of the world with these snowshoes on! Well..maybe not on top of the world, but on top of that small incline…but I didn't fall off, so it was a win!
Ken has already purchased a pair of snowshoes and I will look for some when I am away next weekend in Freeport at SPA.
Hopefully there will be some snow when I get back home.

Last week we had 30 inches of snow dumped in our back yard, but this week we will have a week of crazy warm temperatures, so maybe I will be buying sneakers instead? 😉
Wonderful! I hope the snow stays put for you; its toast down here but we enjoyed it while we could.

I’m so glad you enjoyed snowshoeing. We considered it in 2015 when we had so much snow here but we never made the investment. I’ll go with you when you shop for snowshoes this weekend!

Now that looks perfect! Tom and I bought snowshoes one snowy year, many years ago. Immediately, it warmed up and we never used them that year! It’s so nice to get out and enjoy the outdoors — even in winter!

So happy you had a good experience with snowshoes. This is a great time to buy them … over the next month, they tend to be discounted to make way for kayaks, bikes, and hiking gear. 🙂 I snowshoe when we go out west skiing as my back can’t take the stress of skiing. It’s such a great way to enjoy nature, agree!

I’ve always been meaning to get snowshoes, but then it warms up and those thoughts fade away. Lol. Hoping you find some this weekend and that your adventures continue for a wee bit before it all turns to mush.

What beautiful winter landscapes. The picture of the creek brought some happy memories of when we went to a friend’s cabin to cut Christmas trees. Hope you get those snowshoes!

Finding a winter sport to enjoy is key to getting through the long dark months. We bought spikes and poles instead of snowshoes and we just love hiking the trails, if they’re not too steep. Enjoy your new found winter fun!
