Friday’s Flower….Sunflower

I know I haven't been very good with my Friday flowers, but I could not let this one last week pass without my favorite flower in the garden.

She is a gentle giant, ever steady…ever strong.  Even with all  of the wet conditions in New England this summer, the sunflower sisters have surrounded my garden in all their amazing glory.

Each year I usually plant a row of sunflowers in my garden, but this year I decided to surround the entire garden with their sunny faces.

Up until this past week, I have not enjoyed my visits to the garden at. all.  It's hard to watch one's hard work be destroyed by weather and bugs….but this week has been such a treat.  A reward for patience and perseverance, I guess. 

Sunflower bzzzzzz As the week has progressed, I have found that I have really looked forward to my morning walk in the garden.

The grrls are full of buzzing bees and seeing  all the different sizes and shapes of sunny faces looking back at me is truly amazing.  I  now understand why people plant entire fields of sunflowers.

To honor the lovely ladies of the garden, one of my new fall colorways will be called Sunflower :).

  6. Love the Sunflower colorway. My son and daughter-in-law got married last October and their theme was sunflowers. I will have to purchase some to make her something as an anniversary gift. Can’t wait!!

  7. Your Sun flowers are wonderful.
    I had one solitary sunflower come up from a seed that i did not plant.
    It grew large but still did not do well.
    Her pretty head drooped.And the squirrels ate all her seeds.
    I still have hope for a next year.
    So glad i can comment on your post.
    you deserve your lovely sunflower.

  12. Kim- They’re such a happy flower, and remind me of when the kids were little- they loved to plant them and see them grow.
    That was when the kids were cute- what happened?

  13. there is something about sunflowers that I just adore…. perhaps their sunny faces, that turn every day toward the sun.

  17. I just love the pictures you post of the sunflowers. I have tried to grow them here unsuccessfully. I will try again next year and see how it goes! They are just lovely.
